Hello

As an art kid and rare millennial who has stuck out most of their career with a single employer, I am often in touch with the tension of being a creative in an environment that does not always value the power of quality visual design. I am on teams of urban planners, engineers, and community engagement practitioners, needing to visually communicate pertinent, technical, often unsexy information to the general public who don’t always know or care about transportation infrastructure, stormwater science, or our complicated sewer systems. A big part of this work has been advocating for a creative approach and inviting my clients into the creative process. With a Bachelors degree in Sculpture and African American Studies, my design work for local government and infrastructure projects has fulfilled a need to harness my creative and interpersonal gifts to serve communities, not sales (yes I am an idealist). However, I am hungry to reconnect to a more expansive creative landscape.

I’m a Seattle-based creative director and visual designer with ten years of professional experience designing campaigns and outreach materials for public sector and freelance clients. I’ve worn many hats during my decade in the industry, but the skills that truly light up my brain include visual identity and branding, creative direction and creative strategy development, layout especially for print, and all stages of video production (from narrative development to production, to editing). I feel ripe and ready to expand on my current skills, and to connect and build with other designers outside of the public sector.

Things I’m into

De-colonizing and opting out of white supremist cultural norms, therapy, generative conflict, working with others from a place of relationship, not transaction, thrifting, cooking for my friends and family, dance church.

Personal values

Humility, direct communication, reciprocity, playfulness, work-life balance, curiosity, warmth.

Aesthetic values

The richness and thickness of 1970s design, found-object art, collage, anything creative that features food.
